Multi-award-winning heritage
Trenchers has been serving customers since 1980, when we opened our original restaurant in Whitby with one simple goal: to cook fish and chips the way they should be – golden, crisp, and full of flavour. Trenchers of Whitby quickly cemented itself as a must-visit destination in the North of England thanks to its traditional menu of fish and chips, seafood and British dishes, served all day, everyday, throughout the year.
Trenchers of Whitby won Best Restaurant in the UK at the National Fish & Chip Awards (2019, 2026) and was named among the Fry Awards Top 10 Fish & Chip Restaurants in the UK and Top 50 Takeaways in the UK (2024, 2026).
In 2018, we expanded with Trenchers Whitley Bay, which also became a local favourite and a nationally recognised name, winning Best Restaurant in the UK at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2020 and earning a place in the Fry Awards Top 10 Fish & Chip Restaurants in the UK and Top 50 Takeaways in the UK (2024, 2026).

We cook traditionally using rich, flavourful beef dripping, while also offering vegan and vegetarian options so everyone can enjoy the Trenchers experience. We are also proud to serve gluten-free fish and chips, prepared to the same high standards as everything else we create.
